Indígenas Wiwas, Arhuacos y Koguis son los realizadores de esta serie documental que recoge el pensamiento tradicional de los pueblos que habitan la Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta sobre su cultura y la relación con el mundo.
Tras seis meses de extenuantes grabaciones desde la orilla del mar hasta las cumbres nevadas este grupo de seis indígenas de la Organización Gonawindúa Tayrona logró capturar, sin interpretaciones externas, las preocupaciones y el sentir de sus autoridades indígenas tradicionales.
La serie documental está conformada por nueve preocupaciones de los mamos: ¿Por qué atentan contra la coca?, ¿por qué es sagrada nuestra tierra?, ¿por qué pagamos espiritualmente?, ¿quién amenaza el agua?, ¿por qué hay calentamiento?, ¿por qué se acaba la nieve?, ¿cómo se forma un Mamo?, ¿qué pensamos de la violencia? y ¿quiénes son los hermanitos menores? También hay un capítulo especial en donde se muestra cómo se produjo la serie documental, bajo el título ¿cómo hicimos Palabras Mayores?
Cada capítulo dura siete minutos, tiempo suficiente para contribuir a la conservación de su identidad, su cultura y su territorio ancestral a través de ‘Palabras Mayores'.
"Debemos empezar a divulgar nuestra existencia y pensamiento y esperamos llegarle a la parte sensible de la población mayoritaria y que entre todos compartamos la responsabilidad del cuidado de la naturaleza", afirma Amado Villafaña, uno de los directores de la serie, mientras señala la importancia de liberar y compartir el conocimiento ancestral.
"Son preocupaciones porque cuando se toma la responsabilidad delegada por el creador y eso no se pude lograr porque el ‘desarrollo' viene destruyendo, ahí es donde los mamos sienten que no están cumpliendo", agrega.
El trabajo de campo
Lo más difícil de la producción, según sus realizadores, fue quizá el trabajo interno con las comunidades, pues a pesar de que el equipo de grabación está conformado por indígenas mismos, algunas comunidades pudieron haberlos visto como intrusos, pues para muchos era la primera vez que veían una cámara de vídeo y todo ese despliegue técnico.
Sólo un blanco, o hermano menor, como dicen los nativos, hace parte del equipo. Como antropólogo y documentalista y Pablo Mora contribuyó a enriquecer la narrativa de los 70 minutos.
La extensión de las intervenciones de los mamos frente a las cámaras fue otro de los inconvenientes con los que tuvieron que sortear. "Cuando los guías hablan lo hacen con una visión integral y van hilando con otros temas, nunca dejan los temas a medias", por eso resultó un tanto difícil la tarea de resumir, sobre todo, teniendo en cuenta que tras días de camino para acceder a las comunidades había que aprovechar al máximo las baterías de los equipos.
La serie documental fue realizada en convenio entre el Centro de Comunicaciones de la Organización Gonawindúa Tayrona y Telecaribe, quien transmitirá los programas los sábados al medio día.
El trabajo inició con el ritual de bautizo de los equipos de grabación hacia mediados del 2008 pero no culminó con el lanzamiento de los documentales el pasado dos de abril en Santa Marta, pues esperan que la voz de los mamos sea conocida por miles de personas en todo el mundo.
Nuevo proyecto
Para julio de este año el equipo espera finalizar un nuevo documental a manera de presentación de los grupos indígenas de la Sierra, sobre la cosmovisión de los pueblos, la llegada del hermano blanco y las dificultades que ello ha representado.
El documental, de 52 minutos de duración, en donde los mamos intervienen en sus idiomas propios (kogui, wiwa y arhuaco) será traducido al inglés, francés y español.
Aún no tienen el título definido, en pocos meses se reunirán con los mamos de los pueblos de la Sierra y serán ellos quienes decidan el título que deba llevar. Con este nuevo trabajo los pueblos esperan cautivar a esa sociedad mayoritaria para contribuir entre todos a la conservación de la Sierra Nevada y su cultura.
